Ask Colonial Joe: What is Boston Like?

Find an English School in the USA

Boston may actually be one of the best places in the USA where you can learn English. Filled with opportunities, Boston is a fun city with a varied history. There are tons of things to do and places to go; you'll never be bored. Of the many activities to take part in, probably one of the most enjoyable is the nightlife scene. There are many bars and clubs to attend, which means lots of chances to meet people. Consider traveling to Boston for a great experience.

There are many types of ESL schools but there are few that help you integrate with the community in which you're living. If you take classes in your country of origin you may not have as enriching an experience as you would if you were located in the USA.

Your English classes will focus on learning English only, but if you come to Boston you'll have a good opportunity to learn about more than just English. You can learn all about Boston's culture and history, present and past. There are lots of guided tours with which you can partake, as well as museums and guest offices for the various colleges and universities.

Part of learning any language is practicing it. Sure, you can practice English in your school classes, but the true learning comes when you can speak it with locals. With that in mind, when you venture here you have to tell yourself that you're going to promise to stay motivated. Sinking into your comfort zone and ignoring the outside world while here will only alienate you from your goal of absorbing English. To truly integrate into the community you have to make an effort to do so.

Choosing a good education is important to deciding how and when you're going to learn English. When it comes time for you to make your decision, be sure to have all your research in order. You'll want to come to a city where there are excellent ESL schools but also a rich culture that you can include yourself in. If you stay home and watch TV or surf the internet all day you won;t get out of this experience what's truly valuable. Make sure you look into sight-seeing opportunities before heading wherever you're going.
